New Music: Evidence, 9th Wonder & David Banner Interview, Another Ross Leak, Gotham Green

We already got one great collaboration this year from Nas and Damian Marley with Distant Relatives. We're shaping up to get another with 9th Wonder and David Banner's Death of a Pop Star.

Evidence of Dilated Peoples joins CookBook & Uno Mas for “When You Rock and Roll.” Over a simple yet soothing soul loop, each emcee discuss the pitfalls of the music industry. Overall the message is clear: if you don’t have a strong will, this business will destroy you. CookBook & Uno Mas’ album C&U Music Factory is available now.

Okayplayer Interview with David Banner and 9th Wonder

We already got one great collaboration this year from Nas and Damian Marley with Distant Relatives. We’re shaping up to get another with 9th Wonder and David Banner’s Death of a Pop Star. In past interviews, the pair have said the overall theme is really the death of black music as a whole. This project has a lot of potential and hopefully delivers.

Sick of Rick Ross already? Well you’d be advised to hiberate for the next week. Ross’ Teflon Don album just leaked, and the official retail hits stores next Tuesday (July 20). Be prepared to hear the songs all over the place for the foreseeable future. This track is an interesting collab with Cee-Lo. Ross has taken strong criticism (and rightly so) for his constant veneration of Mafia figures like Albert Anastasia and John Gotti, who let’s just say didn’t have the most endearing opinion of people of color. He tries to rectify that here by sampling black nationalist rhetoric. Ironically, this might make some people even more mad considering his drug kingpin persona. Check it out.

Gotham Green & Quickie Mart

West Coast rappers Gotham Green & Quickie Mart are dropping an album entitled Haze Diaries Volume 3 featuring guest spots from Freddie Gibbs and Planet Asia. Despite being a typical weed anthem it’s hard to go wrong with a Patrice Rushen sample (even a popular one). Enjoy.
